What Is QBLISS? A Glossary of the Proactive Care Ecosystem
What is QBLISS? If you've seen QBLISS, QBLISScare, Red Biofilm Care, or "dot, line, sphere" in our webinars, training materials, or at the end of these posts, this is the glossary that puts them on one page. In one sentence, QBLISS is a proactive dental care ecosystem built to make the invisible visible, turn treatment into care, and carry care into a healthy life. Below, each term gets a short definition, with a link wherever we've covered it in depth.
What does QBLISS stand for?
QBLISS = Quantitative Biofluorescence-Led Intelligent Screening Sphere. It's the ecosystem that connects devices, data, clinical use, patient education, and continuous care, and makes storytelling consultation possible. It isn't the name of a single device or a single piece of software; it names the way those pieces work together in practice.
Each word carries a meaning:
- Quantitative: quantitative analysis, so images captured under the same conditions can be compared over time.
- Biofluorescence-Led: biofluorescence is the starting point. Under 405 nm light, mature biofilm shows red and sound enamel shows green.
- Intelligent: images and records are used in clinically meaningful ways.
- Screening: identifying observations that need further evaluation. The dentist makes the call.
- Sphere: the connected ecosystem around the patient (more on "sphere" below).
The name doesn't imply automated diagnosis or any particular feature release. The devices provide information; diagnosis and treatment decisions stay with the clinician. For the optics behind it, see Quantitative Light-Induced Fluorescence: What 405 nm Shows.
From reactive to proactive care: what QBLISS is trying to change
Reactive care responds to symptoms and confirmed problems. Relieving pain and restoring function is essential care, and QBLISS doesn't downplay it. It adds what comes next.
Proactive care looks at the current state, keeps a baseline to compare against, explains what a change means, and plans when to check again, choosing prevention, observation, or treatment as needed. Proactive doesn't mean treating every patient earlier: choosing education and observation for the right patient is proactive care too.
The products connect four actions: observe, record, compare and explain, and carry into care. For patients, we put it as six plain steps: see, compare, explain, act, check, and care again. It's a way to describe care, not a new count of clinical steps.
The names inside QBLISS: devices, software, and workflow
Qray: the imaging device family that gives clinician and patient a shared starting point to look at and talk about. Qraycam Pro (overall oral status and baseline images), Qraypen C (detailed views of a site of interest), Qrayview Pro, and Qscan Plus (the patient's everyday observation and home-care coaching). See Qray Intraoral Camera Lineup: Which Device, When?.
LINKDENS: the software platform that runs QBLISS, turning observations into records, assessments, comparisons, consultation, and care information. It has three modules:
- Insight Care connects patient information, images, tags, treatment plans, reports, and care records, reducing the records gap between visits. It drafts a summary of findings from selected records, which the clinician confirms.
- Insight Brush uses Qray fluorescence images to assess and compare oral hygiene and support home-care coaching, linking what's explained chairside to what happens at home.
- Insight Smile generates a projected image and compares it with the original to support esthetic consultations. Projections are simulations; actual results depend on examination and clinical conditions.
Red Biofilm Care: a five-step protocol carried out in a single visit. Screen first (screening, hygiene assessment), clean thoroughly (biofilm removal), reassess, then diagnose precisely, combining functional information from fluorescence with structural information from radiographs.
QBLISS proactive care process: five areas (early detection, prediction, prevention, functional preservation, and esthetic rehabilitation) connected according to each patient's condition, not a sequence every patient walks through.
The QBLISS Consultation Engine (the storytelling method): three moves (show, explain, preview) that help patients understand their own condition. Consultation isn't a sales pitch; it helps patients make their own choices.
Dot, line, sphere and FOC/LVOC: how the care model is described
Dot, line, and sphere are an analogy for how care connects. A dot is individual treatment of a specific tooth or site; a line is the path from exam to diagnosis to treatment; a sphere is the whole patient-centered environment where records, treatment, consultation, daily care, and the next visit are connected. It is not a ranking of practices.
Circular Care and Hybrid Care. Circular Care is the repeating flow of exam, diagnosis, treatment, and care within a connected environment. Hybrid Care runs necessary treatment alongside prevention and maintenance, so treatment results feed back into care and reassessment.
FOC and LVOC are applied together. Functional Oral Care (FOC) protects and restores function: relieving pain and disease, chewing, keeping teeth. Life Value Oral Care (LVOC) considers what oral health means for a patient's life (speech, appearance, confidence) and the patient's own goals. Esthetic treatment alone doesn't make care proactive; function and clinical suitability come first.
QBLISScare, Qray Care, and My QBLISS Care: what's the difference?
| Name | What it refers to | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| QBLISScare | The network of participating clinics that use Qray and LINKDENS to practice continuous care | "A QBLISScare participating clinic": it signals participation, not certification or a quality guarantee |
| Qray Care | Clinics that use Qray devices | Shown on the map with a different color and shape from QBLISScare |
| My QBLISS Care | The continuous care a patient experiences | The current app is called the LINKDENS patient app; keep the two distinct |
QBLISScare connects patients with clinics that put this philosophy into practice. The map and badges show that a clinic participates in this way of continuous care; they don't certify outcomes or rank clinics.
There are two education names, too. QBLISS CDE is clinical-data education; Global QBLISS Insights is an education program for clinicians outside Korea. Attending Insights is not the same as earning CDE credentials.
What's next
It looks like a lot of vocabulary, but it's one story: make today's condition visible with Qray, connect records and comparisons with LINKDENS so patients understand what changed, and keep care going until the next check. For a practice owner, QBLISS is a way to use a single capture as the basis for both patient explanation and ongoing care; rebooking and acceptance are things you measure in your own practice, not promises. When the clinics that work this way connect through QBLISScare, treatment becomes care, and care leads to a healthy life.
FAQ
Q. Are QBLISS and QBLISScare the same thing?
A. No. QBLISS is the name of the whole ecosystem connecting devices, data, clinical use, education, and continuous care. QBLISScare is the network of participating clinics that practice it.
Q. How many steps are in Red Biofilm Care?
A. Five, in a single visit: screening, hygiene assessment, biofilm removal, reassessment, and precise diagnosis, where fluorescence and radiographs are read together.
Q. Is the dot-line-sphere model a way to rate a proactive dental care ecosystem or a clinic?
A. No. It's an analogy for how care widens from individual treatment to a connected, patient-centered environment. It isn't used to grade clinics.
